Big Walk & Wheel

Big Walk and Wheel inspires pupils to make active journeys to school, improve air quality in their neighbourhood and discover how these changes benefit their world.

Big Walk and Wheel is open to all primary and secondary schools in the UK. It is free to take part and there are daily prizes to be won.

On each day of the challenge, schools compete to see who can get the highest percentage of their pupils walking, using a wheelchair, scooting or cycling to school.

We will be participating for the first week 16th - 21st March.

How many active journeys will your pupils make?

School Council News

At last week’s meeting, the School Council agreed that having their own dedicated email account would help them work more efficiently. This is now up and running, and councillors will be checking it during their Friday meetings.

They also discussed which charity they would like to support this year and have chosen The British Heart Foundation. Keep an eye on future newsletters for updates as they begin planning an event to raise money for this important cause.

Our School Councillors also turned their attention to premises matters. Putting their new email account to good use, they contacted Mr Surman with a list of jobs around the site that they would like him to take a look at.

Will You Find the Emerald Ticket? ??

In celebration of World Book Day, we are thrilled to launch our annual, book-themed fundraising event: The Emerald Ticket Book Sale!

This event is all about the magic of discovery. For just £2.50, your child will receive a mystery, age-appropriate book to take home and keep. Each book will be gift-wrapped to keep the title a secret until the big reveal!

The Golden (Emerald!) Opportunity
Hidden inside a select few books are the elusive Emerald Tickets. If your child finds one tucked between the pages, they can bring it to the school office to swap it for an exciting prize!

How to Order

  • Price: £2.50 per book

  • When to Buy: Pre-orders open this Friday, 30th January and close on Friday, 13th February.

Where to Buy: All books must be pre-purchased via our SumUp store -

https://dunalley-primary-school-ptfa.sumupstore.com/product/world-book-day-emerald-ticket-book

Delivery: Books will be hand-delivered to children in their classrooms on World Book Day (Thursday, 5th March).

"Pay-it-Forward": Sharing the Love of Reading

We want every child at our school to experience the excitement of unwrapping a new book. When you visit our SumUp store, you will see an option to "Pay-it-Forward." By purchasing an extra book, you are generously providing a mystery gift for a child whose family may otherwise be unable to afford one. We thank you in advance for your incredible kindness and community spirit.

Reading for a Better Playground
While we are focused on fostering a lifelong love of reading, this event also has a very practical goal. All profits raised from the Emerald Ticket sales will go directly into our fundraising pot for new playground equipment. By buying a book, you’re helping us improve our outdoor space for all the children to enjoy!

KS2 Tag Rugby Match Report – Tuesday 27th February

Our KS2 Tag Rugby team enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of sport as they took on both Lakeside Primary School and Swindon Village Primary School on Tuesday 27th February. Our  mixed squad of 12 Year 6 boys and girls demonstrated superb skill, teamwork, and determination throughout the event.

The team got off to a brilliant start with an impressive 12–3 victory over Lakeside. Their quick passing, confident tagging, and excellent communication helped them take control of the match from the first whistle.

Their second game, against Swindon Village, was a much closer contest. Both teams showed great attacking play and strong defence, but Dunalley held their nerve in a tense finish to secure a narrow 8–7 win. The match showcased the children’s resilience and ability to stay focused under pressure.

Across both games, the team displayed fantastic rugby skills—supporting one another, creating space, and working seamlessly as a unit. Every player contributed to the team’s success, and they should all feel incredibly proud of their performance.

A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who helped transport the children to and from the venue—your support is greatly appreciated and made the afternoon possible.

KS2 Girls Football Match Report – Dunalley vs St Mark’s Primary

Our KS2 girls football team put in a fantastic performance in their recent match against St Mark’s Primary School. Although we lost the match, our girls showed incredible determination from start to finish and never stopped battling.

The team, made up of players from Years 4, 5 and 6, demonstrated brilliant teamwork throughout the game. They supported one another, communicated well, and kept their heads held high even when the match became challenging. For several of our girls, this was their very first experience of playing in a competitive football match, and they approached it with confidence, enthusiasm, and a fantastic attitude.

A huge thank you to all the families who came along to cheer the team on. Your support from the side lines made a real difference and helped encourage the girls right to the final whistle.

Next fixture – Thursday 5th February vs Springbank Primary School
