    Our Vision and Rationale

We aim for every pupil to leave our school believing that their voice has the power to change their world. Every Voice. Every Interface. Every Child.

    Why Oracy Matters

At Dunalley, we believe that oracy — the ability to speak and listen effectively — is one of the most powerful and transferable skills a child can develop. The ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and purposefully underpins success in every area of school life and beyond.

Research consistently demonstrates that high-quality classroom talk accelerates learning across all subjects, supports reading and writing development, and builds the social and emotional skills that children need to thrive. As Neil Mercer (2025) argues: every teacher must be a teacher of oracy.

    The Future Ready Oracy Framework

Our school has adopted the Future Ready Oracy Framework as the foundation for all oracy teaching and learning. This framework redefines oracy not merely as 'learning to talk', but as developing cognitive skills, personal confidence, and vocal assurance. It moves beyond traditional presentational oracy to prepare our pupils for a world where their voice is a tool for expressing themselves and a powerful agent for change.

The framework also acknowledges that children live and will work in an increasingly digital world. While AI and automation may change the tasks of the workplace, the ability to collaborate, empathise, and advocate remains uniquely human. We prepare children for this reality.
