Maths

  • Your child will continue to have access to a programme called Numbots which will support your child’s maths.
  • Your child should already have login details but please let us know if you need them again.
  • Your child will have opportunities to bring home activities to support their learning.
  • Your child will bring home a knowledge organiser which will cover this half term’s learning in maths. This is also attached for your information.

Reading

  • Your child should continue to bring home one RWI book and one story time book each week.
  • Please could your child bring their book in daily as there is an opportunity for them to read every day in school. Year 6 pupils have loved coming to help support the younger children.
  • Remember reading should be pleasurable (not too tricky for your child and certainly not frustrating for you!)
  • Do not hesitate to let us know if your child finds their book too easy/hard.
  • The texts your child brings home should include a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books

Phonic Screening Test

  • This is a national test that takes place every year in June.
  • Miss Richards will administer the test.
  • There will be no stress on the children.
  • We will prepare the children for the test in school and will send supporting materials home over the next few weeks.
  • Extra support will be given to pupils who we feel need.

Writing

  • We are very excited to be introducing a new scheme in writing.
  • This enables the children to consolidate the strong foundations in writing – handwriting, spelling, oral telling and composition.
  • By the end of each unit, the children will be expected to write up to 5 sentences independently using the Year 1 tool kit.

Spellings

Please find attached the Year 1 high frequency (common exception/red) words. These are the words that the children should be able to read and spell by the end of Year 1.

We will inform you each week of any focus spellings that we would like you to support your child with.

Handwriting

  • We will continue to focus on handwriting this term.
  • It is important that the children form the letters correctly.
  • Letter guidelines were sent home last term to support your child when writing but we are happy to provide a new one if misplaced
