Dunalley News 06/11/26

Welcome back to Autumn two!

Goodbye Mrs Byrne

In assembly this morning, we took the opportunity to thank Mrs Byrne for everything she has done for Dunalley as she leaves us at the end of today.

Throughout her time at Dunalley, Mrs Byrne has transformed many aspects of school life behind the scenes and has been instrumental in the successful launch and development of OPAL. Her hard work, dedication and commitment have had a lasting impact on our school community.

To show their appreciation, each class created a card filled with good luck messages, which were presented to Mrs Byrne alongside flowers and gifts from staff.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mrs Byrne for her dedication to Dunalley and to the children and families she has supported over the years. We wish her every happiness and success in the future.

Thank You

Mrs Raybould would like to thank the parent who dropped in some amazing pre-loved toys and activities. She's so excited to use the activities with the children. We're very grateful.

Open Morning

We are delighted to invite families of September Starters 2027 to our Open Morning at 9:30am on 11/11/2026.  Families are warmly invited to come along and enjoy a presentation from the Headteacher, followed by a tour of the school led by our enthusiastic and knowledgeable pupils.  We look forward to welcoming families and showcasing all that Dunalley has to offer.

Please just turn up, you are not required to book.

When someone serves, their family serves too. They face months apart, sudden relocations, and the worry that comes with loving someone in uniform. And when a crisis hits like injury, bereavement, or financial hardship, they need our support. We are here for serving personnel, veterans, and their families. For life. Your donation today means we can be there whenever they need us.

Poppies and other child-friendly merchandise are available at the school office.

Let’s Get Talking!

Here is this week’s starting point for family discussion. Please take some time to share your ideas, listen to each other and explore different points of view. We hope you enjoy the conversation!

Children who walk home independently - Updated Mobile Phone Policy

Following the introduction of new statutory guidance from the Department for Education, we have updated our Mobile Phone Policy to reflect the government's expectations that schools provide a mobile phone-free environment throughout the school day.

At Dunalley, children are not permitted to use mobile phones, smartwatches or similar devices during the school day. We recognise, however, that some children may need to bring a mobile phone to school, particularly if they travel independently. Where permission has been granted, phones must be switched off, handed to a member of staff on arrival and stored securely until the end of the school day.

There are a limited number of exceptional circumstances where a child may need to keep a device with them, for example, where technology is required to monitor a medical condition such as diabetes. These arrangements are agreed individually with families to ensure children's medical needs are met.

Year 6 families have already received a separate communication explaining the updated arrangements and how to request permission for their child to bring a mobile phone to school. We are sharing this information in the newsletter so that all families are aware of our updated policy.

Our updated Mobile Phone Policy can be found HERE.

Our request for permission to bring a mobile phone to school form can be found HERE.

Thank you for your continued support in maintaining a safe, positive and purposeful learning environment for all children.
