Family OPAL Come and Play

You are all welcome to join us for an OPAL Stay & Play, between 2:00pm and 4:00pm tomorrow (26/09/2026).  Bring the whole family and join us for a fun-filled play session in our fabulous school grounds. Explore, create, imagine, and play together in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.  We can't wait to see you there!

Thank You

Mrs. Raybould would like to say thank you for the donations of puzzles and toys. If anybody has any magnetic building shapes or stickle bricks that they no longer need, they would be gratefully received.

Year 3 Science - Food and Nutrition

This week in Science, Year 3 became food detectives as we explored the nutrients found in different foods. The children compared a range of meals, investigated food labels and discussed whether foods contained high, medium or low amounts of different nutrients. We also learned about the difference between saturated and unsaturated fats and talked about why making healthy food choices is important. The children enjoyed examining real food packaging and were surprised to discover just how much information can be found on a food label!

Year 4 Art - Hundertwassers' in the making!

In Art, Year 4 have been inspired by the work of Friedensreich Hundertwasser, an artist who loved to paint wherever he found himself, whether at home, in nature, travelling on trains and aeroplanes, or relaxing in cafés and restaurants. Taking inspiration from Hundertwasser's passion for creating art outdoors, Year 4 made the most of the warm autumn weather and our beautiful school surroundings to create their own drawings.

Cross Country Success

Cheltenham Cross-country – Thursday 17th and Friday 18th September

The cross-country was amazing. We were all nervous at first but we all enjoyed it. As we headed to the start line, our adrenalin was pumping. After the man told us to ‘go’, we ran ahead thinking about our speed and stamina. Everyone was so supportive and friendly as we went round. We were so proud of our team. Matilda and I ran together. Emily, Chloe and Amira had a magnificent experience and, although we found it tricky, we had the best time. Molly was extraordinary. She showed us all perseverance and how to pace ourselves in the best way possible. She came first. Well done to everyone who took part – it was the best!

Healthy Snacks

Encouraging healthy snack choices helps children stay focused, active and ready to learn throughout the school day. Fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, yoghurt and wholegrain snacks provide important nutrients and energy, helping children grow, concentrate in class and enjoy playtime with their friends.

Remember: Healthy snacks and water are the best choices for keeping minds and bodies fuelled for a successful day at school! 🍎🧀🥒🍌💧

Beyblades and Pokémon Cards

We know that Beyblades and Pokémon cards are very popular with lots of our children, and we completely understand why! They can be great fun to collect, play with and share with friends.

Unfortunately, we have had a number of incidents recently involving personal Beyblades and Pokémon cards being lost, damaged or causing issues in school. This can understandably cause upset for children and can be difficult for staff to resolve, particularly when items have been swapped, shared or brought into busy playground spaces.

For this reason, we are asking that Beyblades and Pokémon cards are no longer brought into school.

There are lots of other toys, games and activities available for children to enjoy during their time at school. We want play and lunchtimes to continue to be fun, active and sociable, without children having to worry about their own treasured belongings becoming lost or damaged.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Our Positive Behaviour Policy

We are very proud of the positive behaviour and attitudes our children demonstrate at Dunalley. Visitors regularly comment on how polite, friendly and welcoming our children are and on the calm, purposeful atmosphere around school. (turn your phone to landscape to see full poster).

Our Behaviour Policy Cont .. .. ..

We also receive positive feedback from members of the wider community when our children are out on school trips – sometimes people even take the time to email us afterwards to tell us how impressed they have been. It is equally pleasing to hear from secondary schools about the hardworking, polite and conscientious young people they are delighted to welcome from Dunalley.

Our Positive Behaviour Policy is built around three simple expectations: Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe. We have created the child-friendly overview above to help children understand these expectations, how we celebrate positive choices, and how we provide additional support when it is needed.

We know that everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Our approach is about helping children to understand what has happened, put things right and make positive choices next time. Our behaviour levels provide a consistent framework for recognising positive behaviour and ensuring children receive the right support and encouragement if they find meeting our expectations more difficult.

Thank you to our children, staff and families for working together to make Dunalley such a safe, happy and positive place to learn.

Family Phonics Information Session

Thank you to everyone who was able to pop into school for our phonics information session earlier today. It was great to see so many families and to have the opportunity to share more about how we teach phonics and support children as they learn to read.

For anyone who was unable to attend, we have uploaded the presentation below so that you can see the information that was shared.

Please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s teachers if you have any questions or would like further information or advice about how you can support your child’s phonics and reading at home. We are always happy to help.

Our Brand-New Reading Books

We hope your child is enjoying sharing their brand-new Essential Letters and Sounds reading book with you at home.

We have invested a great deal of money in these high-quality books so that every child can enjoy a book that is carefully matched to their phonics learning. We want to keep this collection in excellent condition so that children can continue to benefit from them for many years to come.

Please help us by keeping books safe, clean and away from food and drinks. We ask that they are returned in the same condition in which they were sent home. If a book is lost or damaged beyond normal wear and tear, we will ask families to cover the cost of a replacement.

Please also make sure that your child’s reading book stays in their school bag and comes to school every day. This means it will always be available when an adult has an opportunity to listen to your child read.

Thank you for helping us to look after our brand-new books and, most importantly, for supporting your child to develop their confidence, fluency and enjoyment of reading.
