Forest School allows pupils from Reception and Year 1 to take part in a range of stimulating activities in an outdoor environment. Sessions either take place around the bird hide at the front of the building, or in the wild garden at the rear of the school. The children work outdoors come rain or shine, so they experience seasonal changes through the year.
Children are encouraged to develop independence, improve their decision making and raise their self-esteem through small achievable tasks. The children work with natural materials and are taught to use tools appropriately. They learn the importance of safety, boundaries and how to look after their site, as well learning to identify a range of plants and animals.
Learning objectives are related to the Early Years or the National Curriculum, but most importantly sessions are planned to be enjoyable and engaging.
